Herbal Digestive Tea

The human body is truly a piece of art. It's amazing how different systems of the body, work in perfect harmony with each other. When it comes to systems, the digestive system is the most overlooked and neglected part of the body.

There are several reasons for this neglect, lack of time, overeating and stress are a few contributing factors that can have a negative impact on digestion. Optimal digestion is necessary for keeping us active, alert and healthy.

All of us have experienced the distress of an upset stomach in some part of our lives and there is no argument to the discomfort one experiences with even a one second stomach cramp, let apart the all day long belching, nausea or stomach ache experienced after a heavy meal or as a result of stress or food intolerance

I sometimes get an uneasy queasy feeling in my stomach later in the afternoon because even when I am having my meals my mind is concentrated on completing my next chore rather than relishing the food I am eating (work stress another contributing factor for indigestion).

So after trying many herbal teas including peppermint tea, I found this herbal tea to be a great alliance for keeping my digestive system in optimal condition. This tea contains digestive and soothing ingredients for the stomach. Fennel, coriander and cumin all have digestive properties  Ginger cures nausea, improves appetite and supports digestion. Again it's important to check with your GP before using any herbs because all of them are not safe and some can interfere with your medications.

IngredientsQuantity
water                                                          1 1/2 cup              
whole coriander seeds1 tsp
cumin seeds1tsp
fennel seeds1/2 tsp
ginger powder 1/4 tsp
sugar. sweetner or honey to taste

Method:
Place the water, coriander, cumin and fennel in a pan also add the ginger powder. I forgot to add the ginger powder but added it as soon as I remembered so you will not see it in the photo.


Simmer for 10-20 minutes on low heat till the tea is reduced to 1 cup.


Strain through a sieve, sweeten and serve.


Take this tea after meals if you have occasional stomach distress but in case of persistent digestive problems  ALWAYS consult with your GP.
